Posted on behalf of Charles Davis:
I know Walter Cronkite but I was wondering who the other 3 individuals are?

Robert, can you or Charles provide any additional information (i.e., where did the picture come from, what's the time frame, etc.)? That might help place the faces.

That middle guy (sort of round face) *almost* looks like Dallas Townsend, who was one of the primary CBS reporters during the space program...but looks a little young (and with too much hair).

The guy with the glasses at the bottom sort of looks like Christopher Glenn, who did space reporting for CBS Radio. (EDIT: Or it looks like Bruce Morton.)

If more information can be provided, it may help. I'm wracking my brain trying to place these faces.

I asked the same question of Charles: he found it on eBay and as such, doesn't know any more about its history than you or I, unfortunately.

Thanks, Robert, for the further explanation. My guesses, on further examination, from top to bottom:

David Schoumacher (gazing into space)
Dallas Townsend
Bruce Morton (in glasses)

I've checked my sources, and these three were constants throughout CBS coverage of the Apollo program. Schoumacher often served to assist Cronkite in NYC; Morton covered JSC; and Townsend was frequently one of the pool guys aboard the recovery ship.

I don't know if those guesses are good enough to win me the giant stuffed bunny rabbit, but it's my best estimate based on what I have.

I think you're right. Especially about Bruce Morton. I was racking my brain all afternoon yesterday trying to remember their names. I feel much better now.

Wait a minute - are the two astronauts ripped off from the "2001: A Space Odyssey" poster? Check out those backpacks!

Now your comment has put an image in my head: those two astronauts come upon a giant obelisk that looks like Black Rock (the CBS building in NYC). The sun that dawns overhead is replaced by the giant CBS Eyeball logo. Instead of the "wah-ah-ah" singing, they hear a gentle, repetitive "And that's the way it is...and that's the way it is..." followed by a microphone being hurled into the air, flying end over end, and as it comes down, it turns into a satellite.

With apologies to Ed Murrow, I can "see it now"!

I missed this thread when first posted. Besides Cronkite, the drawings are of Charles Von Fremd (father of ABC's Mike Von Fremd), Nelson Benton (center) and yes, Bruce Morton (bottom).

The appearance of Charles von Fremd (who died in early 1966) in that picture would explain a lot about why the lunar landscape and the astronauts' spacesuits look like early conceptions.

And I double-checked my copy of "10:56:20" and, yep, the picture in there of Nelson Benton matches this rendering.

Good catch, Go4Launch.

The man on the top is none other than Bill Stout! Nelson Benton in the middle and Bruce Morton on the bottom.

Bill Stout on the left, Nelson Benton on the right:

I stand, humbly, corrected.
