Following on from Cold War Space Sleuths edited by Dominic Phelan, we have, through Astro Info Service, compiled a special edition of the popular ZENIT magazine now available through our website.

ZENIT ran from 1985 - 1992 and was edited by Neville Kidger with contributions from Rex Hall, Mike Cassutt, Andy Salmon, Phil Clark, Phil Mills and many others.

In Space Sleuths, we mentioned the popularity of the magazine and in this edition, we have expanded the history of how the publication was produced. Contributors have provided their own reflections on the magazine and how sleuthing the Russian and Chinese programmes has changed over the years.

List Of Contents

  • Preface - Dave Shayler
  • Introduction - Asif Siddiqi
  • Creating Zenit - Dave Shayler
  • Glasnost At Its Zenith - Dominic Phelan
  • Following The Soviet/Russian Manned Space Programme Over Short Wave Radio - George Spiteri
  • Sleuthing Down Under - Colin Burgess
  • Sleuthing In The Post-Soviet Era - Bart Hendrickx
  • The View From The Netherlands - Bert Vis
  • Andrew Salmon: Zenit Science Correspondent - Dave Evetts
  • A Low-Grade Fever: Remembering Zenit And Rex - Michael Cassutt
  • From Renewing The Proletarian Revolutionary Line To Live Broadcasting: Following The Chinese Space Programme - Brian Harvey
  • My First Meeting With Zenit, A Personal Perspective - Rob Wood
  • Closing Comments - Dave Shayler
  • Acknowledgements And Other Works - Ais Publications And Springer Verlag Books
Initially, this publication is available as a hard copy, wire bound, to match the older editions or via a PDF electronic version.

A disc is being prepared which will contain all 64 issues of the original magazine, in PDF form, along with the 1985 Cosmonaut Detachment booklet by Rex Hall and Dave Shayler, also included will be a full index.

Full details are available via our website.
