A year after Voyager 1 & 2 launched in 1977 - accompanied by their fabled Golden Records - SNL did a newscaster skit with Steve Martin.

He said something to the effect of, the first interstellar communication has been received from aliens, and their request is to send more Chuck Berry. This of course is a nod to the inclusion of 'Johnny B. Goode' on the Voyager Record.

I'd sure like to see this clip. I've poked around on YouTube and such, but can't find a video of it, or a transcript anywhere.

Does anyone happen to have this, or happen to know exactly what Steve Martin said?

If you can narrow down the date, you might find something here.

Using their search function didn't pull up anything for me, but there were at least two other Voyager jokes in the transcripts.

Jay, from Wikipedia:
In the Saturday Night Live broadcast of April 22, 1978, Steve Martin appeared as a psychic in a mock news show entitled "Next Week in Review." His psychic character revealed that next week, Earth will receive the first official message from extraterrestrials (responding to the Voyager Golden Records). The message: "Send more Chuck Berry."
I couldn't find a clip or transcript either, but it was the last skit of that particular show. I'm assuming it will be included in the SNL Season 3 box set when it is released probably in Dec '08 as Season 1 was released Dec '06 and Season 2 is due out in Dec '07. Don't buy the edited hour long single show because the skit was not included.

Ah, then it is this show - and there is a transcription header at the end for it, but, sadly, no transcription of that particular segment...

Thanks much for the comments. Yes, it seems like I'll have to wait for the DVD to come out!

Just to confirm, this episode *is* included in the SNL Season 3 box set that's now out. I watched it the other day, and it's there, towards the end of the episode, in a segment called something like "News From Next Week" with three clairvoyant types.
