I have noticed that there are a number of biographies/autobiographies of Cosmonauts and people involved in the Russian Space program that have been published in Russian but never English.

Does anyone have any ideas on how it would be possible to contact the appropriate people (both authors and publishers) with a view to having some of these books translated and published in English?

Would there be a market for such books? Would enough sell to make it financially viable for all concerned?

Thank you for any assistance or comments you may be able to provide.

All the best.

Regards, Ian from Oz

The language barrier is huge. So many wonderfully thick, rich publications exist in Russian that have not been translated into English. Only now are we even getting Boris Chertok's "Rockets and People".

Translating this stuff is a huge undertaking. You're not talking about one person sitting down for a month and banging it out. Typically these things run through a third-party translation service who is contracted by the publisher. Chertok's publisher used TechTrans International out of Houston, who put at least five people on it.

As far as marketability goes, I don't know enough to be of any help there.

Hope this helps!
