Are all you folks on here aware that in the British Movietone library, there is some actual footage of Cooper's TV pictures? I believe even Mark failed to track down a copy of this for his Project Mercury set.The launch is there also, along with some BBC TV from the 14 May scrub (commentary by Robin Day). In addition, I also found what looks like TV coverage of Carpenter's MA7 launch - but it has been mis-filed as 26 March 1963! |

The Movietone site is riddled with errors making it near impossible to log on. For those having trouble the 30 minute film "The Flight of Faith 7" also includes the footage. |

Funny? I'm able to log on easily at any time. I downloaded loads of their preview newsreels without a problem. What "errors" are you referring to?But at least there does exist a recording showing the MA9 TV transmission. That's exciting, isn't it?

I just re-read your message, Dwight. The film "The Flight of Faith 7" does not include the footage I'm referring to - it merely shows some still frames.I know Cooper's slow-scan TV sent just one frame every two seconds, but the recording from Movietone shows exactly how the transmission looked on the screen.

No matter which internet connection or PC I attempt to use, the login takes forever and basically freezes the computer. It only happens on the Movietone site.I am in Germany, so maybe it doesn't like non-UK logins. Which is weird as I got a confirmation email saying I am registered. Can you give the URL? |

I had the same problem up to three or four days ago, but everything was fine after that. Have you tried in the last couple of days? |

Colin, boy do I stand corrected. The TV images are thought be long lost relics of the MA9 mission. A pity the detail is hard to make out, but nevertheless it is great. I also tried to locate images from the SSTV. I knew Cooper shot the Cape, and now I get to see it. Cool! |

I have registered and agree with you Colin, it is amazing to see that footage from Cooper's flight. I would recommend everyone interested in any footage from Sputnik through Apollo to go take a look. I have now spent quite a few hours trawling through the "space" clips, and there are some real gems! One that immediately springs to mind is the reference to Sputnik 1 on one of the movie reels. It was known and referred to as "BLEEP!" Priceless! |
