Superb publication and the quality is also far better than the two previous on MIR space station. Quality glossy paper and sharp color photos.Looking forward to the second edition in this series! |

Thank you for your kind words on the ISS book. We changed the printer for the ISS book and were able to get a sharper image in the pictures than the softer images used in Mir.We are thinking that we will do the next book towards the end of 2004. We need a critical mass of missions to fill the second book.We planned a series that will build up to be a history of the development of ISS. We have some really good material in hand for the next one. If this proves to be popular we intend to produce a full covering the history of ISS. Again thank you for buying the first of the set. |

Which subjects do you already have covered for the second edition? |

The BIS are monitoring the situation with ISS and will publish volume 2 in due course. I cannot say when perhaps when we know we can fill 112 pages. We will carry on with some of the subjects from the first volume. Expedition missions, visiting and logistical missions, science are certain ones. I am looking at an EVA paper. We will need to look at the implications of the Columbia disaster and Return to Flight. We do want to build it up into an history of ISS. |

What's the status on the publication date of the second book on ISS history? I would hate it if BIS wouldn't go further with this series. |

As the editor of the first ISS book I can confirm that we are planning book two next year to fill the gap up to the return to flight. We have already identified the subjects and which missions we will include. We want it to become a key historical record of the construction and purpose of ISS. It should be available to order in the September 2005 subscription notice. |

Just an acknowledgement that BIS staff-members started to read the article proofs for the second BIS book on the International Space Station. So I guess they're on schedule. |

Just to confirm that it is the intention of the BIS to have this ready by September for sale. The text is being put together at the proof stage and we are on target. the text for the ISS 10 mission has been completed. It will be exactly the same size as the first volume.I hope that people purchase it in the same numbers as the first. I want to thank the BIS members involved some of whom read this message board. |

Well I have seen a preview and part of it looks a bit like the "Who's Who in Space" book with individual portraits of the astronauts and cosmonauts who performed EVA on ISS. |

Noticed the cover of the second ISS book on the membership renewal documents. So let's hear now: Who at cS bought it and what's your opinion? |

Got the 2005 book (192 pages) today, it's better than the first 160 pages 2002 volume. Checking it diagonally I noticed some rare crewphotos and many individual portraits of spacewalkers in EVA-suit. |

Today I received my copies of parts 1 and 2 (thanks, Philip!) and I must say: they look great. This is a must for every ISS-follower. The guys that wrote the books are the experts in this field and the photo selection is great. Some very rare crew portraits. Buy them! |

I've tried multiple times to order the ISS books through the BIS website, and every attempt I've made had my "transaction declined" for no stated reason. I emailed the BIS requesting help on the 28th of July, and have yet to receive a response.Either their customer service branch is overwhelmed, or they're utilizing the same online sales platform as the London Olympics, or both. |

Well, I got a reply from Mary at the BIS as I was leaving for work today...I don't know if that was your "influence" at work, Philip, but thanks regardless! Anyway, I feel a bit thick...turns out the problem was on my end. Per Mary's suggestion, I contacted my bank and found that it has a security block on most out-of-country transactions. After giving them my approval, I was able to order successfully. |

Enjoy the books, part 2 is the only book listing all EVAs conducted by astronauts/cosmonauts (with their individual portrait) to build up the ISS between 1998 and 2005. There's also a section on crew patches.A follow-on part 3 is long overdue... |

I received both ISS volumes over the weekend, and after a bit of skimming, they're indeed attractively produced, authoritative, and highly commendable. (Unfortunately, my local mail carrier exhibited a heretofore undemonstrated determination in jamming them through my office mail slot on a Saturday; the result being that they're in rather less than optimal condition. On the one hand, given what the BIS charged for shipping, I'd have expected rather more protective packaging, or at least a "DO NOT FOLD" on the outside of the envelope. On the other, just bad luck they arrived on a Saturday. Impossible to time these things when ordering from across the pond.) Regardless, they're definitely worth owning; great job by Rex Hall and the BIS staff. Given the ISS's essential completion, any chance for a volume 3? |

I agree on the packaging issue. Even here, in "good old Blighty", mine arrived in a "kicked about like a football" state. |

Sorry to hear this, it would be great if all the BIS books would become available as digital downloads! |
