Judging by the fact that it is 256 pages long and, according to the blurb on Amazon, "contains over 500 colour photographs and illustrations," that does not leave too much room for text on such a sweeping topic covering nearly four decades of space flight. It looks like another coffee-table style book, but that doesn't mean to say it mightn't be a nice one to have - the Amazon price is certainly okay.

I purchased Jim Winchester's book on the Lockheed Constellation a while back and was extremely happy with his work...great mix of photos and text.

It's hard to say how this new volume on spaceflight will be (appears to be different format and different publisher)...and it might be aimed at a more general audience. But based on his Constellation book and the low price, I might just give this one a shot.

I flipped through this book at Borders a few weeks ago. It's a survey of space projects and missions in "capsule" form; 1-2 pages per entry with color photos, artworks, and graphical presentation. It's a pretty attractive volume aimed at a general audience, but I didn't delve deeply enough into it to comment on its general accuracy or technical depth. It definitely looks like a value at the price, but I'd already met my space book quota for the month ;-)

There are also companion volumes in the same format covering "The Solar System" and "The Night Sky" from an astronomical perspective. Each of the three includes a pull-out chart, which unfortunately I couldn't open w/o physically removing it from the book.

I bought the book and like it. It's not particularly scholarly, but it has some interesting details that I didn't know about...though I'd check a second source for accuracy.

I think it's worthwhile...

thanks all for your inputs and comments. They're much appreciated especially- unlikely for me to find it here in Geneva so I can't flip through it to figure out what it's "worth".

Since we've got a flight-worthy one over here, you will be probably interested in the following: http://www.superconstellation.org/
