All,I was recently fortunate to acquire a copy of the publication "Geologic Setting of the Lunar Samples Returned with Apollo XI". When comparing it to another being offered by the Manhattan Rare Book Company: http://www.manhattanrarebooks-science.com/nasa2.htm I noticed that mine did not have the date, "September 1969", nor the 'disclaimer' - "This preliminary report is distributed without editorial and technical review for conformity with official standards and nomenclature." - on the cover. Other than that, they appear to be identical in text and content. Does anybody know or have any ideas as to which pre-dates the other? I keep bouncing back and forth on this... My guess is the report with the disclaimer is the earlier version...or earlier than your version, at least. While I don't have any evidence to directly support my guess, I would assume the disclaimer would be applied to a "draft" or preliminary version. Once the report has received more review (possible peer review from other geologist) and possible revisions, the disclaimer may have been removed.[Edited by mjanovec (November 10, 2006).] |
