Has anyone seen this book yet? Does it have any illustrations? X20 is a pet interest of mine, but this is a bit expensive, hence the question... Thanks,

I remember a review of this book from some time back that indicated that the book concentrated more on military doctrine and politics than development history or technical info. For $120 it certainly is not worth taking a chance on...Besides, it would be hard for any Dyna-Soar book to beat Apogee's "Dyna-Soar: Hypersonic Strategic Weapons System". |

No, it doesn't have illustrations. I know the author and saw him last week at a military space history symposium at the US Air Force Academy. Both he and I gave talks, but I missed his because I was driving back to the airport with Asif Siddiqi. I'm interested in that review. However, the book does focus much more on the doctrine and policies and not the technology. It's an adaptation of his dissertation. He does have a lot of illustrations and photos and we discussed possible places for him to publish that collection. I suggested Motorbooks or Schiffer and possible publishers. The cost for this volume is absurd and the company clearly markets to libraries. Currently 21 US libraries own it, meaning that the publisher has made a couple thousand dollars on the book. I doubt that they will sell more than 100 copies at that price. Get it through inter-library loan.

Dwayne,I doubt that I will have access to this book through a European library...
It would be very interesting if Houchin manages to get his photo/illustrations of X20 published. Years ago, I corresponded with him and he sent me some nice photo's of the mockup and concept drawings of two X20's docked to a space station. I would love to see more backgrounds on these.
Please press the issue of a photobook next time you speak to him!

I offered several suggestions for potential publishers. He doubted that Apogee would be interested, considering that they already did a Dyna-Soar book. My one qualm with them is production quality, and I don't think they would do the photos justice. There are other publishers who can do really good reproductions and I'd rather see him go there. He said that he has a lot of good material, so I hope it makes it to print.
