I have just finished Charlie (and Dotty) Duke’s excellent ‘Moonwalker’. In the bibliography page on the ‘Apollo Lunar Surface Journal’ site it intriguingly says that this book was ‘mostly written by Dotty Duke’. Does anyone know any more about how Charlie and Dotty came to write the book?

My recollection from talking to Duke is that Charlie basically talked out all of his memories, and Dottie wrote them down. I think it's one of the reasons the book works so well, because the excitement that a speaking voice carries comes across very well in his book.

Anyone who watches the Apollo 16 EVA's will know that Charlie Duke definitely has a way with words (many, many, many of them). The Apollo 16 DVD set from Spacecraft Films is easily my favorite just because of Duke's exuberant commentary. You can tell that he was thrilled with being there. And the contrast with stoic John Young makes it all the better.
