This book describes the technological epic of a small legendary rocket which we have not heard the last.In late 2010 will be the first launch of a Soyuz rocket from Kourou, French Guiana. This flight will be the starting point of a second life for this vehicle, which launched the first satellite, all the Russian cosmonauts, a large quantity of military satellites, during the first fifty years of space exploration . This rocket, called R-7, developed by the famous builder Sergei Korolev between 1954 and 1957, was the first intercontinental missile in the world.
In the early 1990s, France and Russia have begun discussions to sell the launcher in the world, leading to the creation of the joint company Starsem, in 1996. To date, Starsem has performed over twenty launches from Baikonur. Europe has decided to integrate the Soyuz family of launchers, requiring the construction of a launch platform in Kourou. From 2010, the rocket will be launched from Baikonur, Plesetsk and Guyana at the rate of fifteen per year.
