We're all aware of the poor video quality of the Apollo 11 EVA television footage. There have been efforts to clean it up and make it as good as possible, but it's still the poster child for "low def." So, would it be feasible for ILM or Dreamworks, or some such, to re-create the Apollo 11 EVA video in high-definition CGI? The video would be identical to the original in terms of angles and action, only it would appear as it would have if modern video equipment had been available on Apollo 11. I'm not an expert, but I'd think it would be relatively easy, since there are just a few static shots as backgrounds, and white-suited astronauts would be relatively easy to model. If done with the goal of being totally accurate, it would be pretty cool to see. Just wondering... |

It might be possible with machine-learning to train an AI in colorizing the EVA frame by frame using photos, 16mm and colour TV from AS 15, 16 and 17.I would be more interested in that. Its already possible to colorize B/W photos with this, create animated faces from still photos. |

Though not identical to what you suggest, from the trailer and description, it looks like François Pomès' documentary "Apollo: Back to the Moon" aims to achieve a similar result. | |
