I am thinking about sending Jack Lousma a few items to sign, including a multi-signed shuttle photo. I would like for him to sign that photo using silver or gold paint ink... do I need to ask first or just send the items and include a note of my requests? I assume he takes checks?

Anyone had an experience? Thanks!

The protocol for signing with Jack Lousma is simple. Write your letter explaining your request.

Enclose a stamped addressed envelope.

My experience was one of complete satisfaction. Bear in mind you may not receive a quick response if he is travelling. I hope this helps.

You probably want to include the paint pen though. I usually send the pen I'd like to have the item signed with, and I include in the letter that he can keep the pen.

That way, you are pretty sure it will be signed in the pen you want and that the pen he has isn't just about to run out of ink as he is signing, etc.

I have a high quality glossy that I made ten years ago that I had Owen Garriott sign in person. It's a Skylab 2 montage that I'm quite proud of. Has anyone had a problem mailing items to Lousma and getting them back? I know he charges $25. And does he inscribe or not?

An option is to get a fellow cS'er to get it signed for you at the upcoming ASF autograph show in Nov. My experience is that Jack will sign it anyway you want (well, within reason). He is a classy guy!

Now in 2014, who know how to contact Jack Lousma to ask to sign document? Thanks.

Jack will be at Spacefest VI in Pasadena early May. If you can't attend personally, you might be able to arrange for someone who will be there to have the item to signed for you and just work out the finances with them. There's no signing fee listed for Jack at this stage on the Spacefest VI website, but that will probably appear closer to the event.

I sent a photo to him with payment about a year ago. I got it back signed in a week. Just use the resources page here for the address. He's great in person too!

I've always been happy and successful with the address and fee information at 'Resources' but in preparation to sending some books to Jack Lousma I checked the county website for his listed address in Ann Arbor and the property was sold July 2014 - no information about forwarding address, but just a note of caution.

I will update Robert if/when I have a valid address... please let me know if anyone has more information.

Does anyone know if he will be signing during his Astronaut Appearance at KSC later this month? I'm still planning on going to hear him speak, but I didn't know if anyone had any insight?

I believe most of the Astronaut Encounter guests sign autographs at least once during the day in The Space Shop. If you call the store, they may be able to tell you for certain.

I caught up with Lousma this past weekend and he gave his permission for his new address to be listed.

Yeah its at 3 or 3:30 ish on the 2nd floor of the main gift shop. Most of the Astronaut Encounter astronauts are gracious signers.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I am taking my 16x20 poster of Lousma during his Skylab EVA. I'm sure you all know the photo. Hopefully he will be willing to sign it for me. I'll let you know how it goes!

Just though I would share an update here. I had the opportunity to meet Jack this afternoon at Kennedy Space Center.

He took time to sign three items for me. One was my 16x20 of his EVA. He also signed an STS-3 crew photo and a Skylab 2 crew photo. On top of signing all of these items very graciously, he took time to tell me the story behind each photo. He joked that crew photos looked "stuffy" because people were always sitting at a desk. He wanted his photos to be unique so he took everyone into the spacecraft for each mission and had the photo taken there.

He also told me the story behind his EVA photo aboard Skylab. Alan Bean snapped a series of photos through the actual window of Skylab. Very fascinating stories, and a very kind man. I've never met an astronaut that I have not enjoyed speaking with, but Jack was certainly my favorite!

Has anyone recently sent signing inquires to Colonel Lousma at the recently listed new address?

I currently reside in Italy and sent an inquiry to Colonel Lousma, that by my best guess, should have arrived the week of November 9th. I have always sent advance inquiries with a simple "Will you sign - Yes or No?' and a self addressed stamped envelope. To date, this has worked flawlessly and I have had great luck with signings via the mail using the other addresses provided here.

I understand there was the Thanksgiving holiday and now a delay with the overseas mail to my FPO which coincides with the beginning of the Christmas holiday mail delays. I just wonder if it was possibly lost either going over of coming back. I sent an inquiry to VADM Truly the same day and received his note back 2 weeks ago.

Would it be inappropriate to send a second note when I return to the states next week knowing that the mail in the states would be more reliable or should I let my original request ride a bit longer?

I just received a success from him from the new address in September. It was very quick so maybe your letter did get lost.

Thank you. I think I may try a second respectful request upon my return to the states next week.

Anyone have any luck or any feedback on Jack Lousma signing through the mail? Is he still signing?

I know he charges $50 which is fine with me, I just wanted to see if there are any recent successes with Jack. I would like to send him something to sign for me.

If anyone had any recent successes through the mail with any astronaut lately and you would like to let me know, I would greatly appreciate it. Looking to add Jack to my collection. Thanks!

I recently sent two letters of inquiry (see above post) beginning in October. I sent one from Italy and one from the states each with a return card to Colonel Lousma at the new address inquiring about signing a piece for my collection.

Neither have been returned.

I would also like to know if there have been any successes during the period after my inquires.

I sent an email to Jack Lousma last night and received an immediate response. He is still signing by mail and the price of $50 is still current if sent with a self addressed stamped envelope for return.

He also stated that return times may be slow depending on his travel schedule. I hope this helps.
