Any history on autographs signed in space?Some ISS and Mir signed covers for sure. Any examples? |

There were ten (10) $9.35 Express Mail stamp covers signed by the STS-8 crew while in-orbit. These were the same as the 250,000+ covers flown in the cargo bay but with serial numbers 1-10. |

The first that I know of with an American spaceflight would be in July 1975 with the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project joint U.S.-Soviet docking and crew interchange between three astronauts and two cosmonauts. Both crews signed 25 Russian covers while in space along with joint documents in certification of the joint space venture. |

Even earlier than the signatures on Apollo-Soyuz, the Apollo 12 crew inscribed and signed the altitude indicator panel aboard their command module Yankee Clipper, which they then spoke about on the ninth day of the mission. Conrad: We wrote a little inscription over the FDAI and signed it -Carr (CapCom): Roger. Try focusing in just a little bit. We can almost read it. It says "Yankee Clipper with Intrepid in tow - Conrad: No, it says, "Yankee Clipper sailed with Intrepid to the Sea of Storms, Moon, November 14, 1969." Carr: Roger; we can read it now. Thanks. Carr: And we copy the signatures.  |

I don't know how long this has been going on, but during recent SpaceX Dragon crew arrival ceremonies, cosmonauts on the International Space Station have been seen going from crew member to crew member, having them fill out paperwork. A photo taken during the Axiom-1 crew arrival reveals the document is a collection of Expedition crew signatures, stamped with the ISS on board ink cancellation devices. |
