A little while ago I saw that the 2000 NASA Astronaut Class does not sign often. I was wondering is this still the case? |

I also suspect that they do not sign well or that they have been given rules not to do so. During the last months I got replies from Eileen Collins, Wendy Lawrence, Andy Thomas, Soichi Noguchi, Ed Lu (this was an autopen!), but I had sent out requests to the 2000 class way before without any success, but for the exception of Nicole Stott. I was lucky to meet Barry Wilmore at the 54th IAF Congress in Bremen and he was very polite and willing to sign. I would really like to know if after the Columbia accident NASA gave out restrictions to the candidates in regard of mail replying. Of course we would understand if NASA tries to cut off any speculation with a new disaster and potential value of signatures. Otherwise it is hard to understand because these candidates surely do not have uniformed personal attitudes and should vary in their signing behaviour as much as the whole astronaut corps. But perhaps I just had bad luck and some of you have completely different experiences. Please tell me. |

I was at the Bremen Congress as well (so we must have met without knowing...) and Barry Wilmore, when presented with the three photos I was able to produce in the short time between learning about his participation and the actual event, immediately mumbled something of "here are the professionals." He signed all three of them, though. My letter to him sending him snapshots of his visit as a gift, by mail, did not receive any reply, though. Maybe NASA adapts to the Russian supersticion: no autographs before the first flight. |

I got the biggest surprise of my collecting to date today. I saw on my doorstep a yellow large envelope from JSC. I thought, "Wow, that was quick," as I had sent two requests just three weeks ago. When I opened the envelope I got a huge surprise. It was from Nicole Stott. I sent the letter it must have been June 2002 and I gave up for dead. Wow, I think that is incredible. I am really shocked as after reading this post I had long given up hope of any of my letters being replied to for the 2000 class. |

During the past six months I received hand signed lithos from Eric Boe, Andy Feustel, Kevin Ford, Ron Garan and Nicole Stott through the mail. At least five out of 17... |

Can share your experience. Stevie, the ones you've got are also in my collection, though not all personally inscribed, so it seems that these are the ones who sign more freely and regularly. I had the same experience with Nicole Stott. Like Ascan1984, I sent a request to her a year ago and got it in February. |

I got a response from Kevin Ford a while back, it even had a really nice inscription too! |

Yeah, he seems to tend to unusual inscriptions — mine had one, too. Maybe it isn't such a boring task for him to sign a pile of lithos in case he changes the inscriptions all the time. |

Wilmore did not sign via one venue as "he did not feel comfortable doing so," although he did sign at another location. Haven't a reply either through-the-mail, although he did sign in-person. |

A couple of years ago after his ISS long duration mission, he appeared at a workshop in the DC area. He was in great spirits and gave an excellent presentation to a smallish audience. Afterwards he was more than willing to sign autographs very nicely for everyone who asked. He even wrote "Butch" between his names. However despite writing to him several times, I never got a reply through the mail. Unfortunately I think that some of these guys have given up on mail requests for the forseeable future. |
