How you can certify that a photo you have let signed by an astronaut is genuine? You can get the signature by mail, or you can have it signed during a signing session, but afterwards, how you can prove that the signature is genuine... and not a forgery?Just asking myself, seeing the autographs I received through the years by mail or at autographs shows (thanks to my US friends). When it comes to autographs you obtained in-person provenance is everything. Keep a detailed record of the in-person encounter. The location of the event, the date of the event, how you met the individual, even what time of the day it was. There is no such thing as to much information. Index cards are great for recording this info on. Then keep the index card with the signed item. If at all possible get a photograph taken of you and the individual or if possible of the individual signing your item with you in the shot. When it comes to through the mail items do basically the same thing. Keep a record of what date you sent the request, what date you got the signed item back, what address you sent it to, whether you sent an item to be signed or requested a signed item be sent to you. The more information you have about how an autograph in your collection was obtained the more the provenance will stand up to any scrutiny.Mark | |
