I have a copy of Gene Cernan's book and would like to get it autographed. I see the address posted at this site for his book only. Does he charge just to autograph the book? Also, should I include a return envelope/box with postage, or include money for return postage? |

Presumably, Cernan now charges to sign his book...as that has been the case for his last few signings. See the posted fees at Novaspace for his upcoming signing. He may make the occasional exception, but one should assume that he is now charging.Regardless, whenever sending any books to their authors for signing, you should ALWAYS include both return packaging (that is easy to use and easy to re-seal) and return postage. Postage for shipping books is not cheap and one should never assume that the astronaut/author is willing to pick up the tab for shipping. |

On the cS page that lists astronauts who still sign through the mail, Gene Cernan is listed as being willing to sign one copy of his book for anyone who sends it to him. No fee is mentioned. Does he actually do this for free, given that he charges for signing anything else? Does anyone have any experience with doing this?Editor's note: Threads merged. |

Does Cernan sign items you mail to him for a fee besides his book? |

The reason I asked is because this page on cS tells who still signs through the mail, and gives fees for those who do (and tells that John Glenn still signs for free). But when it lists Gene, it only says that he will sign one copy of his book for you, but doesn't list a fee. I figured that he does require a fee, but just wanted to clarify. |

The information on that page as it pertains to Capt. Cernan was provided to us by his assistant, albeit quite some time ago. We haven't heard any reports to the contrary until Kim's reply to this thread. I've written Cernan's office to clarify and to apologize if outdated information has been put forth inadvertently. |

I sent him a copy of his book several years ago and got it back in fairly short order for no fee. Was inscribed nicely to me with a short sentence concerning his Apollo 17 mission. Of course this was several years ago and could have changed. |

I have heard back from Cernan's assistant and the information we have remains correct. Captain Cernan will sign anyone's book at no charge providing they send us a way to return the book to them. The P.O. address is correct. All other autograph requests should continue to be directed through Novaspace Galleries (Astronaut Central). |

Well that's good to know about his book. I had no idea that Novaspace handles autograph requests for Cernan though. If this is the case maybe Novaspace could give me the particulars when it comes to cost and shipping and such? Thanks. |

Novaspace holds signings for Gene Cernan every now and then. I participated in a Cernan signing for Novaspace a few years ago and it was amazing. I recommend being a part of their signings! As for the book, I sent my copy of "The Last Man on the Moon" about a decade ago and Cernan put a very nice inscription in my book. Of course, send a very nice letter and an SASE and you should be ok. |

That's good news! Sorry to be dumb but how could I send my book from the UK and ensure return postage is included? Is there such a thing as US pre-pay or something I wonder? |

For what it's worth Chris, if I send something to the states that requires mailing back I usually get the package weighed and the postage cost confirmed, then go to my local travel agent and get double that amount in US dollars for inclusion in the package. |

Did you know that, just like the Royal Mail, you can pre-pay and print out postage labels for the US Postal Service?Take your book, weigh it with all packaging, get a price, print and stick. I always add a little bit of weight just in case my scale is out or any other error on my part. Hope this is of some help. |

I was hoping to be able to mail something in with payment and get it signed without waiting for the next private signing (which could be never). I don't think they've done one with him in at least two years. It would be nice to be able to simply send something in to get signed whenever I have the money like Bean and others do. |

Well he very kindly signs his book for free apparently. I'm sure if you contacted his office to send another item in with payment they may be able to accommodate your request? On edit: Sorry, just to clarify I am referring to both a signing fee and postage in this instance. |

Cernan's assistant was clear; the P.O. Box is to be used for book requests only. All other autographs requests should be directed to Novaspace Galleries. |

Cernan is scheduled to be at the ASF show in November. If you want something signed, I or someone else attending the show can hook you up no problem. |

I appreciate the offer and I may take you up on that if your still willing to do it then and I have the money. I just wish a lot more astronauts would be willing to take through the mail payments and requests. It would make things a lot easier for me and probably for them in extra money without a lot of travel. But I do appreciate the offer. Thanks |

I sent Gene a copy of his book 9 days ago, and it was returned in today's mail, inscribed and signed to my son exactly as I requested. That is some fast turnaround! Thanks, Gene! |

Am I reading this correctly, will he sign copies of his book for free through the mail or is there a cost involved? |

There is no cost though you must include appropriate packaging, self-addressed and postmarked, for its return. I believe it is intended as a one per person (per lifetime) offer. |

Rob is correct. Gene will sign one copy of his book TTM for free. However, at autograph shows it is treated as 'just' another autograph at regular price. Most astronaut-authors will sign for free only if their book still in print. |

I sent my copy, which was returned in less than two weeks with a nice inscription. He must have signed it just before he went to Afghanistan with Armstrong and Lovell. |

Well I've gone for it and sent Gene Cernan my copy of his book, a letter, self-addressed jiffy bag and some dollars to cover return postage. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed. |

You should have no trouble. I got my copy back in 9 days, and a friend here got hers back in 9 days also. Given that your book will have to travel across the Atlantic twice, you might want to double that amount of time, or maybe give it slightly more than that. But I would be surprised if it takes more than three weeks. |

It says on this site that you can send Gene Cernan's book to him to sign. Does he charge for this? And if "no" then is it going to be a bookplate?Editor's note: Threads merged. |

As noted above, I recently received my signed book back from Gene Cernan. He does not charge for his book, however I did enclose $20 in cash to cover postage, an addressed jiffy packet and covering letter. The book was flat signed and very nicely inscribed. |

I know a lot of people who have autographs from Gene Cernan. A lot of sites say that he only signs his book. Can anyone tell me if this is true and if so, what address can I send to?Help greatly appreciated!! Editor's note: Threads merged. |

Through the mail, he only signs his book. The address can be found here.Otherwise, he is only available through commercial custom signings and autograph show appearances (for a fee). |

Cernan will be at Spacefest IV in a couple of months. See the Spacefest IV thread on under Autograph Shows and Signings to see how you might send something to have signed there. |

I received my book back nicely personilized and signed after about 12 days. Captain Cernan has always been my favorite astronaut and I felt very proud and honored to hold something that he held and signed. |

I wanted to share my recent, very happy, experience with having a copy of Gene Cernan's memoirs signed. I have never sent away asking for autographs before, however I found the information on this site and thought I would try to get some of my memorabilia signed by some of my childhood heroes. On Thursday, May 17th I sent a letter to Captain Cernan, along with a copy of his memoirs and a self addressed envelope. I was very surprised this past Thursday (May 24th), just one week later when my copy of the memoirs were returned to me with the following inscription: Wow! Thank you so much Captain Cernan, I never expected an inscription so nice, and I was shocked by the speed in which he returned it to me. What a first experience! |

When I was in Houston a few years ago I picked up his book and he already signed it. Would he add an inscription if I sent it out to him? |

He will, but he will likely charge you for the inscription. Last time I saw him at an autograph show, he made a point - repeatedly - to the person ahead of me in line that he was getting tired of people trying to get him to add inscriptions for free to previously-signed items. He said he's glad to inscribe, but he will charge for it. |

Captain Cernan is one of the friendliest people I've ever met. I spotted him in a hotel lobby and asked if he would pose for a photo with me. He graciously stopped what he was doing and did so. When I commented on how polite he was after he must have received many similar requests, he said "well you paid for the trip didn't you"? A classy guy. |

I already have an Apollo 10 postal cover and autobiography signed by Gene Cernan.I am now trying to decide whether to have the NASA booklet "On the Moon with Apollo 17" or his iconic flag and rover photo signed? Any thoughts? |
