Picked up a Jean-Jacques Favier-signed STS-78 glossy photo of the crew sitting around the breakfast table. Of course, this now means I have to try and get the rest of the crew to sign the photo.

Walt Cunningham, Charlie Duke, and Cady Coleman, all got in person at an event in October.

Sent away a photo mid-September and yesterday morning received it back through the post with a very nice signature... John Glenn.

I too received a response from John Glenn. He signed two NASA glossies for me.

From a batch of eight requests sent to the 8-Balls astronaut candidates in July 2014, so far I've received signatures from Tyler Hague, Anne McClain, and Drew Morgan — hope to get the rest back by the summer, but we'll see. They're certainly quite busy at this point.

I decided to get this photo signed by Mike Foreman because I like getting the unusual photo signed. It's also a nice complement to the picture I have of Nichelle Nichols sitting in an early shuttle simulator.

I recently acquired an STS-47 crew signed litho which to me is significant because Hoot Gibson and Curt Brown are also pilots of Hawker Sea Furys at the Reno Air Races. So it's a nice cross collectible for me.

My newest piece is a copy of "Flying to the Moon" signed by Mike Collins.

This leaves me with needing only two books written and signed by American astronauts to have a complete collection. One is "My Life as an Astronaut" by Alan Bean and "First on the Moon" signed by Armstrong (I have it signed by Aldrin and Collins).

I hope to find a Bean one day, but it may be harder to find a "First on the Moon" that I can afford.

Don't give up on the Armstrong. A few years ago I picked up a copy signed by Armstrong at a used bookstore. I paid $25.50 for it!

My most recent astronaut autograph is one from Mark Kelly, and the photo is just small enough (3.5x5) for it to become a bookplate for his second children's book.

Please forgive my ignorance, and I don't want to come across as rude, but is that blob of ink scribble Don Pettit's signature?

For comparison, here's a similar Pettit autograph, received in-person.

Not to be confused with Reid Wiseman's signature.

My small collection just got a lot better. Four, signed in person, Jerry Ross 8x10 photos picked up at his event over here in London, UK.

The photos are:

  • STS-61-B ACCESS construction EVA
  • STS-37 EVA with CGRO in the background
  • STS-88 EVA from the cover of Spacewalker
  • STS-110 holding his 7 mission patch flag on ISS
The highlight was getting to meet Jerry and hear his stories. A great guy.

I did get one more book that I needed that I had neglected to mention on my earlier post. I just got a signed copy of Jose Hernandez's "Reaching for the Stars."

Still need the Bean and Armstrong signed books.

A couple of things, but of note is this completed crew photo of the STS-28R crew. I bought the litho already signed by Mark Brown and David Leestma, then added Jim Adamson and Dick Richards easy enough. I was ready to call that "complete," but then was fortunate to add Brewster Shaw at a recent fraternity dinner.

I was the winner of the signed GT-8 cover in the recent RR auction. I'll be eating cheese sandwiches for a while but it did fill the last hole in my collection of signed Gemini crew covers.

I started collecting space autographs in late 2013. I recently completed a collection of one autograph of every moonwalker, and have acquired several other autographs along the way. Many of them came from other cS members. I hope to soon take pictures/scans of the ones I haven't yet uploaded, and can then provide a link to my Flickr page.

Now, it's time to slow down for a bit. This hobby can get a bit spendy, to say the least!

While I just read the latest postings regarding the ending of John Glenn's signing requests, there is enough material out there to purchase at a reasonable rate.

One of my latest purchases was of a vintage 1962 dated lot of a John H. Glenn, Jr. signed photo and index card along with a hand written and signed letter from Annie Glenn on vintage NASA letterhead, along with a Annie Glenn signed index card and a signed index cards of their children David and Carolyn "Lyn" Glenn.

I have been purchasing vintage J.H. Glenn Jr and John H. Glenn Jr items lately because I really enjoy the "period" signature from his historic flight. Outside the personal politics, he is one my heroes who was part of something great when the United States took on a challenge. I will be greatly sadden when the day comes and we talk about the reflection of this American hero.

Here's my one from Mike Collins recent signing, I don't think I'll ever be able to afford to add Buzz but here's hoping!

...and this piece has quickly become one of my favourites!

Finally after several years of looking, I managed to find and buy Milt Thompson's "At the Edge of Space," signed by him. As a bonus it was a first edition/first print. Found it on Amazon for a whopping $15, including shipping.

For what it's worth, I think you'll regret it if you do not find a way to scrape together the money to complete your Apollo 11 crew litho.

Agreed. Bite the bullet and get it done now. Sell something common and easily replaceable if you have to. You will be really kicking yourself in 5 or 10 years if you don't.

Thanks for the advice guys! It's definitely my intention to add Buzz, my fear is that I might not get the opportunity. I've already got my Buzz piggy bank half filled with change on my bedside locker! He hasn't got any shows or signings lined up in the near future so unless our friends over at novaspace get him in it looks like my litho will remain buzz-less for a while at least!

While rearranging the space library of some 1,400 books last weekend came across a copy of "Wernher von Braun, Crusader for Space, An Illustrated Memoir". Had placed it in a plastic sleeve some years ago. It has a lot of great old black and white photographs. It is signed by the authors Ernst Stuhlinger and Frederick Ordway III.

I finally got around to scanning or photographing my space autograph collection that I've (mostly) assembled in the past year and a half and have posted the images on the web. Now if I could just get around to cataloging the rest of my autograph collection, I'd be in good shape.

I sold the Glenn U.S. Senate photo and Aldrin "Mission to Mars" book that are still shown on my site when I was saving up to purchase my Armstrong, but I still have everything else.

Thank you for the kind words. It's a meager collection so far, especially compared to some of those I've seen on cS, but I've thoroughly enjoyed acquiring these items. Several of them are from other cS members. They've been very helpful, and I appreciate their knowledge and honesty in space autograph collecting.

The highlight of my space collecting so far was to meet and shake the hand of Harrison Schmitt, who is my favorite astronaut. My own father is a geologist, and geology fascinates me, so meeting the first true geologist astronaut was a thrill I'll never forget. Not to mention, he came across as a very genuine, kind person.

The display I put together of the photos of Dr. Schmitt and the autograph couldn't have cost me more than US $15. The autograph is a photocopy, as I didn't have the guts to cut the title page out of the book that he signed.

My newest autograph arrived today: The latest German astronaut Alexander Gerst (ISS 40/41). Normally the European Astronaut Center is quite fast with requests, but this one took nearly six months.

There hasn't been a German in space since six years and Alexander was the first to use the social media regularly. He became very famous in Germany and his lectures are always very busy.

I saw him just five days ago, but decided not to beg for an autograph, as there were so many children and I've already send a request.

To make it short: Yet one of my favorites.
