Has anybody here has ever tried to get a signed crew photo from an shuttle mission? Could it work, if I send my official crew photo to:

Commander Steven Lindsey and the STS-133 crew, NASA-JSC, Astronaut Office Mail Code CB, 2101 NASA Road 1, Houston, Texas 77058-3696?

Will there be a chance to get my photo back (I hope signed)?

I sent individual requests to each crew member at the start of this year and have not yet received a reply.

Shame really because up until then my through the mail success rate was 100%, admittedly though I had only tried John Glenn and Chris Cassidy before!

It used to be possible to write to the crew and have a fairly good chance of getting a signed photo in return...though autopens were always a possibility. In more recent years, the odds of getting a genuine signed crew photo through the mail are significantly less, but it still can happen...especially if your letter connects with a crew member and he/she likes what you wrote.

If you do write to the crew, you likely won't need to send the crew photo you already have...since the crew will have a supply of their own photos for signing. Plus, there is a strong liklihood of you not getting your photo back.

All you can do is to write a nice letter and hope that it makes a connection with the crew.

Maybe that´s the best thing, I can do! I keep my beautiful crew photo and just write to them after they have finished their mission. Thanks for your advice!

Is there anybody down towards Houston either at NASA or collectSPACE who could get an item signed by the STS-133 crew for me if I sent it down?

STS-133 was my first in person space shuttle launch! It means a lot to me not as a collector or space nerd, but because it was my voyage of lifetime heading down twice and witnessing history!

I collect pinball machines and would really love to have the centerpiece artwork on my Space Shuttle pinball signed by MY crew of space orbiter Discovery.

I know that if I don't catch them all together that I'm lucky to find one myself in the years to come, let alone the crew as a whole.

I'd be happy to send along a worthwhile tip/payment/donation to whoever is able to help me make this happen! I know its a long shot in the dark, but other than cS, I don't know anyone at NASA down there other than starting to call people and hopefully find a helpful person on the other end.

I could package it was nearly industructable and all you'd have to do is flop open the top of the box and close it again ready to be shipped back with as as little messing around with packaging and re-packaging as possible. I'd also have a very friendly letter included you could hand one of the crew that explains what the piece is and why I appreciate it so much!

If anyone thinks they can help or has any tips or leads I'd really love hearing from you! I can't afford to bomb down to Texas for the day for one autograph and to shake hands with, lol MY Discovery crew!

Editor's note: Threads merged.

A possible idea would be for you to take a trip down to Houston around the time of the STS-133 debrief event. You can do the museum, tour Johnson Space Center and maybe get that signed then. This way it never leaves your hands and you do not take any chances with the mail.

Just as a postscript to my earler posts, I cam home today to find an envelope from NASA siting on my doormat which contained a signed and personalised photo of Nicole Stott!

A very nice surprise!

Congratualtions!

I sent my crew photo (I had two of them) to shuttle pilot Eric Boe. I wrote a letter to him, told him, that STS-133 launch day Feb. 24th is my birthday and asked him to sign the photo, and if he maybe could ask the other crew members and his commander to sign it too. So far I did not get any answer...

I realize that the pinball machine image was probably cropped for the post. But keep in mind that if you're sending a special photo to have signed by a crew you need to have some space (no pun intended) for their signatures.
