Hello,

Since more than 20 years I am space collector. In the begin I was collecting newspapers and in the 80's I begin to write to JSC to obtain autographs. I never sold one autograph. Unfortunately because of the internet, many 'collectors' sold their pictures for big money. The problem now is that most of the astronauts do not respond to my letters and if I receive an answer, it's an autopen...
Do you think that I must to write to the home of the astronauts to have more luck on my requests? or do I need to continue to send my letters to JSC...

Greetings to all

Hello Bart,
i still get a good response by writing to astronauts at JSC.
All the best,
David.

Success or no success, if the astronauts are active, than I would suggest that its not only a good idea to send requests to JSC, its the only idea. Writing them at home when by default they have a specific address to send autograph requests is an unnecessary violation of their privacy.

I've gotten a few responses this year from JSC. Some active astronauts just don't sign thru the mail and others take a long time. The majority, I would say, are very good. Just keep trying.

Hello

When you write to JSC, do you enclosed stamps for your answer?

Some people do, but it is not really necessary.

I usually send a self-addressed stamped photo mailer, even though as Juergen says, it isn't necessary. I usually either get the signed photo back in the mailer I provided...or I get a NASA envelope, containing both the signed pic and the unused photo mailer. Positive results are 50/50 either way.

My reasoning for sending the stamped photo mailer is that it's much stronger than the NASA envelope. Also, it is theoretically easier for the astronaut (and their admin people) to just insert the photo in the mailer and put in the mailbox. Anything I can do to reduce the time they need to invest in responding to me is a plus.
