I attended the presentation of NASA's Ambassador of Exploration Award for John Glenn back in Feb of 2006. After the presentation they had a photo op with the astronauts. If memory serves, in attendance were Neil Armstrong, John Glenn, Steve Robinson, Kathy Sullivan and Mark Brown. I ordered professional prints from Ohio State for myself, son and daughter. Well, two to three weeks ago I finally got around to sending them in for Glenn's signature. I got them back a couple days ago, all inscribed to my children and myself. What a truly great guy and national treasure! |

I sent off four photos about three weeks ago and just got them back. Pretty quick! Glenn only signed two of the four. I put a sticky on each of the two saying "To xxx..." for my kids. He signed those with a wide black marker. The kids were thrilled! Pretty impressive the he still signs for free. |

I have sent Senator Glenn, a couple of items from the UK, and they have been returned within a few weeks. The man is a legend amongst space fans and his handwriting is most neat and tidy. He also signs for free. He added a personal hand written letter, which was great. Only a couple of lines but it was great. |

I sent John Glenn a photo of him in Friendship 7, and he signed it and sent it back. I hope he read the nice letter I included.I'd been meaning to contact him since I was about 7... |

In the late 1980s, I was in my early teens and over here in Australia there was very little written about the space program and of course we did not have the net. One night the film "The Right Stuff" was shown on TV. I know now that it is a very bad representation of fact, but at the time it kindled my interest in space flight, and started me collecting books on Mercury, Gemini and Apollo. After watching the film I remembered that I had read somewhere that John Glenn was a Senator in the States, so I wrote to him "care of the US Senate, Washington", and asked if I could have his autograph. To my utter amazement and joy about three months later I got an inscribed autographed photo in the mail. I treasured and continue to treasure it and to this day it holds pride of place in my study. To me that has always been the mark of the type of man that Glenn is, that he would take the time to reply to a young kid on the other side of the world despite all his responsibilities. |

I sent Senator Glenn a copy of his book to sign it took about a month and came back today inscribed by him! Thank you sir, it has been an honor! He is a great American! |

Just to add my experience. I sent a picture of him riding in the back of an open top limo with JFK at the begninning of May and received a personalised (just the first name) signed picture back today. |

I received a photo today, personalised and signed. I just wrote a letter and within a month I have it here in Holland.I will frame it and give it a prominent place in my study. This one is worth more to me than a photo I buy. Have others got the same feeling? If you ever read this thread sir Glenn, I cannot thank you enough. |

While I have some covers that John Glenn signed years ago, in going through my collection I realized I did not have any autographed photos of the first American to orbit the Earth. Since Sen. Glenn just turned 88 (his birthday is July 18, 1921), I decided not to delay. I had a black and white photograph showing Glenn in his silver Mercury spacesuit with space artist Cece Bibby next to his Friendship 7 MA-6 spacecraft (Cece painted the Friendship 7 design on the capsule). Cece had signed the photo in silver for me at a UACC meeting a few years ago. About 3 months ago I sent the photo (with a stamped return Priority Mail envelope)to Sen. Glenn at his Ohio State address-- the John Glenn Institute for Public Service, which he and his wife Annie founded. I was pleased to get back the photo today, autographed and inscribed to me in silver sharpie. It's a treasured addition to my collection. Sen. Glenn has literally signed thousands of autographs through the years, and has never charged for his signature. Space enthusiasts owe him a debt of gratitude for the time he has devoted to our requests. He is a gentleman and a patriot. |

Even though Sen. Glenn is an "easy" and free signature, there's nothing that matches the thrill of getting a signed photo from him in the mail. I share your excitement with your recent photo success from him. For me, the feeling was almost like he had also included flags and fireworks in the package - I felt like I had connected with an old-style, genuine American hero. |

I sent off a picture of the seven to him a few months back with the intention of having him sign it then getting Scott Carpenter to add to it at Autographica.I had started to think it had gone astray in the post either to or from him or that it would arrive after Autographica, but this morning I had one of those great old fashioned experiences when I happened to look out of my window and could see the postman walking up my front path holding an envelope with what looked very much like my handwriting on the front. It was like being 5 years olds and seeing Santa turn up on Christmas morning!! Sure enough it was the signed picture back from John Glenn, looks fantastic and for about 10 minutes I was walking round the house with a dumb grin on my face like a little kid! |

I sent Mr. Glenn a 21" by 18" original oil on masonite painting by David K. Stone which Mr. Glenn graciously signed and returned in about three weeks. |

I wrote to him about three months ago asking for his autograph (and I invited him to STS-134 with me if I get tickets) yesterday I got a reply. A signed photo with a 'to (name) best regards' on it. The 'to xxx best regards' part was typed on. |

I've recently worked on getting some John Glenn signatures on books in my collection. In 2009 I asked him to sign a copy of his memoirs and also a copy of "Into That Silent Sea." I sent each separately and only sent the second when the first was returned. Each took about a month and came back signed and un-personalized. For my last "wanted" Glenn in 2010 I sent a first printing of Bill Pogue's third edition of "How do you go to the Bathroom in Space." It was already signed by Col. Pogue and Sidney Harris (the cartoonist for the book). It took about 4 months but I did get it back signed with out an inscription and it happily lives back in my book case. I already had Senator Glenn sign my Alan Bean "Apollo" book years ago. He was nice enough to include a personalized and signed NASA portrait with that book. He has always been very nice and I believe I have more than I need so I can let the good Astronaut/Senator enjoy the remainder of his retirement without additional requests from me. |

Dee O'Hara showed you my copy when I asked her to sign it for me at the 2010 Astronaut Scholarship Foundation show. My copy is signed by Francis French, Colin Burgess, Wally Funk, Dee O'Hare, Scott Carpenter and John Glenn. I think that is it. Wish I could have gotten Paul Haney as well. The signatures are all on the half title page so "Into That Silent Sea" is boldly printed on the page with the signatures. |

In which case, my apologies, I must have forgotten about that in what was a very busy couple of days! Indeed, Paul Haney only signed a couple of books, that I know of... we lost him far too soon. Great to hear you have Glenn on yours. |

Attached is the half title page I've used for collecting signatures. "Into That Silent Sea" is a very good book. The topic also lends itself well to collecting multiple signatures on a single item. The signatures from top to bottom are: - Dee O'Hara, Astronaut Nurse

Whow, I could not believe it! - I received my John Glenn autograph here in Germany a few days ago. Wonderful!I had sent Senator Glenn a picture, showing him in his orange space suit from STS-95 and got it signed and personalized to me back after a few weeks. I never thought it would be possible to get the autograph of one of our greatest space pioneers that easy. John Glenn is great and it is so fine to have him still with us! |

I was lucky enough also to receive a signed photo from John Glenn a few years ago. My personalisation was rubber-stamped however, with a black felt-tip autograph. |

Sent Senator Glenn a copy of his book and an 8x10 OSS back in early May 2011. Very pleased to have received both back today signed and personalized to me. Senator Glenn is a class act. Considering his age and schedule I am surprised he continues to sign as freely as he does. I did include a $25 donation to Ohio State as a thank you to Senator Glenn in my initial letter to him. Thank You Senator Glenn! |

I recently received two autographs from Senator Glenn - one on one of the Code 3 re-isssued Friendship 7 model's base and one in his first edition autobiography. I had previously got autographs on a color shot of him loading into Friendship 7 on launch day and a black and white of him beside the capsule. Priceless mementos for a kid who grew up in the 60's when all that was actually happening.  I am deeply grateful for his autographs and plan on passing it on to my daughter - who met Aldrin. Lovell, Haise, Duke and Cernan this summer! |

Received my item back today. The packaging was better than the way I sent it!My kudos to Senator Glenn's staff for an outstanding job of taking care of our precious items with such efficiency and good humor. And of course, my endless admiration goes to Senator Glenn for his unending generosity to people like us. Can you imagine signing "several hundred" items in one day at age 90? For free? |

Got my two items (a signed photo of the MA-7 launch for my son and a signed copy of Glenn's memoirs for me) back today as well. I have to agree that it's pretty amazing Glenn still does this at his age. He's a great American hero and I feel honored that he responds to requests like this. |

I sent a copy of his shuttle portrait. Just got it back tonight (Christmas Eve, no less) about a month and a bit after I sent it. I'm not really an autograph collector but after reading here that he will sign stuff, I couldn't resist. He signed it to my name just like I asked. It's going to the frame place as soon as I can find some patches to frame it with!A real class act, that man! |

I was extremely fortunate to see Senator Glenn and the Apollo 11 astronauts receive Congressional Gold Medals several weeks ago in the U.S. Capital Rotunda. |

A few weeks ago I sent an autograph request to Senator Glenn for my grandson whose first name is 'Tillman'. I sent a picture of the Mercury Seven standing in their silver spacesuits. Today received my prepaid postage envelope back from Senator Glenn. Unfortunately the envelope did not contain the picture I sent but it did contain a very nice magazine inscribed 'To Kevin' (I think it is 'Kevin') on the cover. If anyone out there can describe the item in specificity to me I will be glad to send it to you. Also if anybody out there got my picture inscribed to my grandson 'Tillman' would appreciate it if it could be sent on to me. Any help either way is appreciated. I want thank Senator Glenn and his staff for what they do. It can't be easy keeping all those requests straight. |

I received my John Glenn signed "Lindberg Flying Over Paris" limited edition lithograph on Tuesday. A FINE Christmas present! The litho. already had Alan Shepard, Jim Lovell, Neil Armstrong and not least Jimmy Doolittle signatures. I am thrilled to have the first U.S. man to orbit the earth signature added. |

My five year old daughter was so excited to get a signed John Glenn launch photo under the tree. Yes, She does know who he is which I am proud of. I also recieved one as well. A great man and example to others. You made a little girl eye's light up. |

Glenn was great at the space shuttle Discovery transfer event at the National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center on Thursday. He was in a bit of a rush but stopped anyway to sign. |

I received my John Glenn STS-95 litho back recently personalized and signed, but it took six months (probably because of the Friendship 7 anniversary) but still very happy. You are an amazing man, John Glenn! |
