After three pages of posts and emotions running high, I think this is a good time to close the first thread on this topic (which has been done), summarize what has been posted (below), and move the discussion forward.Questions have been raised for David Frohman, President of Peachstate Historical Consulting, Inc., regarding his recent recall of Armstrong WSS autographs. David has agreed to post a response on Monday and then participate in an orderly, civil question and answer session through this message board. The questions raised thus far (in order they were posted and noting who asked):
- If Peachstate is not 100% sure that an autograph is authentic, why are they selling it and why would anyone buy it? - Dan Lorraine
- What exactly triggered the recall of the Armstrong WSS autographs by Peachstate? - Robert Pearlman
- Why wasn't the flag test countered by Peachstate? - Robert Pearlman
- After realizing that the Peachstate Armstrong signature style was suspect, were other recalls (for example, Collins' autographs) issued? - Robert Pearlman
- If you (David Frohman) are such an expert how did you allow that many forgeries onto the market? - albatron@aol.com
- Were the Collins and Armstrong signatures already on the Peachstate Apollo 11 crew photos when Buzz signed, or did Armstrong and Collins sign after Buzz? - Steve Zarelli
- Where did Peachstate obtain their Mike Collins WSS SPs? - Steve Zarelli
- Why did it take Peachstate two years to issue a formal recall (when collectors were alerting PS of authenticity issues as early as 1998)? - Steve Zarelli
- If Armstrong and Collins do not sign, how was a photo signed only by Buzz, and acquired by Peachstate through a trade, completed, without an inscription? - James Brown
- What was the fate of the blank Armstrong, Collins, and Apollo 11 crew lithographs Peachstate reportedly purchased from several dealers a few years ago? - Mint
- When did you first start distributing lithographs to your customers as Christmas gifts? - Russ Still
- How many lithographs have you distributed to your customers as Christmas gifts? - Russ Still
- When purchasing Apollo 11 lithographs, why were Aldrin WSS portraits omitted from your want list? - Mint
- Have the Apollo 11 items that were sold by Peachstate that include the same signature style as the those that violate the flag test also been recalled? - xxcygni
- Has a recall of the Armstrong WSS autographs sold by Peachstate been issued? - Joe Davies
If I have omitted someone's question, I apologize. Please add it to this thread. Additionally, please feel free to add new questions but let's try to keep them respectful and keep the banter low (so the questions are not lost in the discussion). |

Since Robert has invited us to post any further questions, I'd like to post the following question about something that has puzzled me about a particular Armstrong autograph in Peachstate's Armstrong Autograph Study. What is the origin of the "To DAVID - "Armstrong signed & personalized WSS portrait (on page 25) - which fails the so-called Flag Test & would be subject to your recall? Is it the result of a mail-in autograph request you sent to Armstrong yourself? Bob Mc. |

Has Mr. Frohman, or anyone in his employ, ever applied, i.e., forged, Neil Armstrong and/or Mike Collins signatures, and knowingly sold them as authentic to unsuspecting clientele? After complaints started to surface about the legitimacy of these signatures, did Peachstate then start recalling these items in order to cover up the fact that a crime had been committed? These are my only questions. |

As you have invited Robert, may I also include the following to the question list:"When refunds had already been issued for the Armstrong signature variant, why was it included in the signature study?" "Why despite being alerted did you continue to sell this signature variant after you had already given refunds for it?" "Why have you not contacted ALL your customers with offers of a refund for this bad signature variant? - why is it left to the customer to find you and try and elicit a refund? Why arent you open about this matter?" "When you have got it so badly wrong once, why should old and new customers have faith in the authenticity of the other items you have sold into the space collector community?" "How do you propose to protect the value of items owned by customers purchased from you when there is little faith in the Peachstate trading name?" "Why has it taken so long for you to respond to fair concern amoungst the collecting community?" "Do you believe in the adage that if it looks like a duck and it quacks then its probably a duck?" |
