Moon Walkers Art Exhibit on Display at Lone Star Flight Museum for Limited EngagementMoon Walkers series of paintings by local artist Logan Goodson celebrates 50th anniversary of the Apollo space program and features the 12 astronauts who walked on the moon.
"Moon Walkers," a series of paintings of the 12 Apollo astronauts who walked on the moon created by local artist Logan Goodson, will be on display at the Lone Star Flight Museum from April 5 through April 30, 2019. Museum visitors will have access to this exhibit with their general admission ticket as part of the museum's celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo mission.
From 1962 through 1972, 12 American astronauts who were part of NASA's Apollo Program left their everlasting footprints on the surface of the moon as millions of people back on Earth watched in awe. These 12 represent a select few who were trained with other equally important Apollo astronauts and countless teams of engineers, scientists, and mission support staff. These men were sons, husbands, fathers and friends with many in the extended NASA community. In many ways, they were just ordinary men who did extraordinary things as part of their job.
Born and raised in the Clear Lake area, Goodson had a "bird's eye view" of the Apollo program many years ago. He had classmates, teammates and friends who were the children of the heroic men of Apollo. Goodson has created many works of art that celebrate America's journey to space.
Goodson said the Apollo Program particularly inspired him. He was a close friend and classmate of the son of Apollo 1-Saturn mission astronaut Ed White, who with Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee, died in a flash fire in a pre-flight test on Jan. 27, 1967.
"I wanted to create a series of paintings to honor the 12 astronauts who visited the lunar surface as well as hundreds of others who played a critical role in the Apollo program, no matter how big or small," Goodson commented.
Each of the paintings features "Moon Walkers" who participated in the Apollo missions, from Apollo 11 to Apollo 17:
- Apollo 11 – Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin
- Apollo 12 – Pete Conrad, Alan Bean
- Apollo 14 – Alan Shepard, Edgar Mitchell
- Apollo 15 – David Scott, James Irwin
- Apollo 16 – John Young, Charlie Duke
- Apollo 17 – Harrison Schmitt, Gene Cernan
