Yesterday, I cruised over to Fernbank Science Center in Atlanta to see the Apollo 6 command module. I've visited the center many times but it's probably been 10 years since my last visit. Not much has changed. The CM is displayed naked, no acrylic housing or other protective cover. There is no hatch but at least now they have a crudely fitted acrylic sheet over the opening to keep it from being a large trash can.
There is a low acrylic barrier/fence surrounding most of the CM but you can basically walk up and touch it if you wanted. The condition of the spacecraft is marginal but at least you can get a nice unobstructed closeup view of it.
They also have a moon rock and flown Georgia state flag from Apollo 17 with a Cernan signed photo.
