Next year I may have to go to Russia on business. I am considering trying to co-ordinate at least part of the trip so I can visit Star City, perhaps during a Soyuz launch. I know Space Adventures has an excellent reputation, but are there any other companies that may be recommended? And can anyone give me any feedback on their own trip to Star City? |

Try these guys: RusAdventures I believe the lady who usually accompanies Leonov and Tereshkova is connected with them. Presume you are aware that Star City is nowhere near the launch complex in Kazakhstan? Contrary to popular opinion it is not that difficult to get around Russia. Last time I was in St. Petersburg we hired a private guide for 3 days at low cost and had a wonderful time. Moscow is an expensive city (Hotels at $250+), but if you're on business... |

Yes I was aware of it. I was looking for a company that may perhaps be able to arrange both. I appreciate the information. I have been to St Petersberg before but not Moscow an for sure not Kazakhstan. I will look over the web site and if the trip is a go follow up with Rus Adventures for more information. Thanks again. |

Is visiting Star City as 'easy' as it is claimed in "Dragonfly"? I talked to a friend of mine who is Russian and she says it is most likely still like that. Editor's note: Threads merged. |

Has anyone been to Star City recently? I'm going to Russia early on in July, spending most of the trip in St. Petersburg but will have 4 to 5 days in Moscow. I'm only just starting to plan the trip now. I've heard great things about the Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics, so I'll definitely make a stop off there but wondering is Star City worth the trip (and the money)? Thanks in advance! |

Star City is a very quiet village. The only restaurant is closed for renovation. Since Star City is civilian rather than militarian you need a permit to enter it at all. I recommend to visit Star City only, if you have either arranged a visit of Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center or if you have fixed to meet anybody there. |

Don't overlook the Museum of Cosmonautics and Rocket Technology in St. Petersburg. It's in the Peter and Paul Fortress, on the site of early Russian rocket research. |

Can anyone recommend a tour operator for visiting Star City? I will be travelling to Moscow in a few months and would like to visit Star City. I've come across a few websites, of varying quality with a wide array of prices. Does anyone have any first hand experience with visiting Star City? Thanks in advance!Editor's note: Threads merged. |

Walter, I have sent you another message from my email; I have also included a second email address, in case the gmail.com address does not work. Thank you in advance for any tips! |

As an update to my prior question, for anyone in the future: I just visited Moscow and had a tour of GCTC/Star City, through Vegitel, and it was excellent. The planning process was very smooth and Stephanie, the agent I spoke with throughout, was patient and explained all the options and prices to me in advance via email. You can literally see/do almost anything you want at GCTC, for a price of course. The tour guide was likewise excellent, his English was perfect and he was an expert in all things space related. I loved the tour; the highlight for us was trying on the Sokol space suits. All in all I would highly recommend anyone interested in such a tour contact Vegitel to set something up. I think they are only one of a handful of authorized tour operators there, and most other 'operators' I spoke with just re-sold the Vegitel tours, at a mark up. If anyone has questions about my tour in the future, drop me an email. Vegitel's website. I don't have any affiliation with them, but spent many hours contacting a lot of different tour companies, so I figured I might help out someone in the future if I can! |
