I was given the opportunity to participate in the Kennedy Space Center Family Day held on Saturday, Nov. 4. It was an amazing adventure as all the facility was open for viewing. The VAB (Vehicle Assembly Building) had mockups of all three vehicles inside to allow for some good comparisons (Dragon, Dream Chaser and New Shepard), as well as an inert SRB segment that looks like it was ready for installation.
In the Starliner hanger there were the three vehicles: the abort test vehicle, the noncrewed vehicle and the latest vehicle being prepped for the first crew (they would only let you take pics of the orbital flown flight test vehicle).
They allowed views of the crawler up close and underneath, very massive, and very old.
The pad tour was typical of a KSC tour, but I did get to get a photo taken of myself but how — that is top secret.
The wheel stop on the SLF was a great photo op and being on that runway was impressive as you really cannot see the opposite end of it.
The industrial complex and the new headquarters building had some great artifacts but were also posted not to share photos on any form of social media site.
All in all I was totally space geeked out that day, absolutely wonderful space experience.
