This past Saturday, my father and I took my son for a little trip to the Stennis Space Center near Bay St. Louis, MS. Here are just a few photos for fun.

Brian Jr. with the Apollo 4 CM.

Brian Jr. with a Moon rock collected during Apollo 15.

Brian in the bootsteps of Fred Haise. This was not actually at Stennis, but at the Mississippi Welcome Center on the MS/LA state line. You catch a tour bus there that takes you to Stennis.

Fred Haise's spacesuit - my favorite artifact at Stennis.

On Sunday night, we had the first really clear night in weeks. Brian Jr. and I saw a very bright pass of the space station, and he also got his first glimpse of lunar craters through my 15x70 binoculars. All in all - a great weekend!

Great pictures! It's obvious your son had a fun time. Enjoy it while you can -- my kids are grown now and when I ask them to go with me on a space related trip they roll their eyes and say, "not another space center!"

The Sun Herald reports that the Stennis Space Center's visitor center will close permanently on Feb. 15, to get ready for the opening of the Infinity Science Center, in April.
Those who haven’t visited StenniSphere museum and visitors center at NASA's John C. Stennis Space Center in Hancock County since it opened in 2000 have only until Feb. 15 to tour the interactive museum.

Then shuttles that have transported tens of thousands of visitors a year from the Mississippi Welcome Center to Stennis for the free tours will stop running and the museum will close.

Some of the exhibits will move down the road to Infinity, which is adjacent to the Welcome Center at Exit 2 of Interstate 10. At 72,000 square feet, Infinity is five times the size of StenniSphere and has a restaurant and gift shop also ready to open.

All times are CT (US)
