I am visiting New York in June 2012. Are there any artifacts from the Apollo era anywhere in New York to see? I know the buildings where the lunar module was built are nearby but need something more to see if possible please. |

- The Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City exhibits a Block I Apollo command module launched by a Little Joe II and two lunar modules (LTA-1, LM-13), among other artifacts.
- The American Museum of Natural History exhibits several moon rocks (it currently is hosting through August 2012 Beyond Planet Earth, an exhibition focused on the future but includes historical artifacts and replicas).
- The Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum exhibits replicas of Aurora 7 and Gemini 3, the two spacecraft it recovered after splashdown. (By the time you visit, it will also be home to space shuttle Enterprise.)

Pre-Apollo; but in Queens, at the site of the 1964-65 World's Fair, the Rocket Park at the New York Hall of Science includes Mercury-Atlas and Gemini-Titan displays. |

To add to Robert's post: the visit to the Cradle of Aviation is highly recommended, not only for its space exhibits (the most in the NY area), but also its aircraft. One out-of-the way artifact is a prototype of a lunar rover called the Molab, on display in the cafeteria at the Cradle. My favorite is the LTA-1 exhibited in a 'clean room' setting, complete with framed and autographed insignias of all the LMs sent into space. | |
