The Joliet Area Historical Museum is completing a new exhibit highlighting the contributions of John Houbolt, a Joliet native, to our nation's space program. As a young NASA engineer, Houbolt championed the Lunar Orbit Rendezvous concept for the Apollo Program as the best way to achieve the lunar landing goal.I have just completed installation of a Lunar Landing Simulator as part of that new exhibit. The simulator uses new software by Historic Space Systems that improves upon software used earlier. The scenes through the windows are quite realistic with thrusters and forward landing gear visible, the control panel gauge displays are in their proper locations and integrated with the panel graphics, and the LM flight profile closely matches the actual trajectory. The overall simulation is the most realistic Apollo lunar landing experience to be found anywhere. The entire exhibit is scheduled to open in mid-July. ------------------ John Fongheiser, Historic Space Systems |

Looks great! This view reminds me of listening to Jack Schmitt standing in the LM mockup at JSC explaining what he was doing during the A17 landing. |

Thanks for all the compliments. As I'm sure you would know, it was a labor of love. |
