Well, that's a bummer. I tried and tried this morning, but completely struck out on causeway tickets.

So, Titusville it is, I guess.

I'm sorry to hear that, Mr. Meek, but I think I may have gotten the very last LTT or so it seems! I had to keep hitting the redial button this morning for an hour and five minutes to get on the hurry-up-and-wait-list and then wait another 25 minutes to get a live operator who told me at first there were no more tickets to be had! But she put me hold for about half a minute and returned with the good news!

I think the tickets are going to get even harder to come by as the shuttle program gets closer to ending in 2010.

Here's a few suggestions:

  • When they go on sale on-line, buy the more expensive 'Dine with...' LTT package. They sell out after the less expensive 'Admission/LTT' package.

  • Write to your local representative. I did and was then able to see STS-115 launch from the VIP bleachers at the Apollo/Saturn V Center.

  • Or get a KSC Annual Pass, as I do, and hope the phone fairies get you through before all the LTTs are gone!

I do have a KSC annual pass. Did I forget something handy?

It's alright, we couldn't really afford the passes anyway. This trip is going to be on a shoestring, due to changing job situations. Titusville will be cool, I'm sure, especially at night. I'll try writing my representative, but we'll see.

We've talked about trying to see at least one launch of each Shuttle before the end of the program. So, there will hopefully be more chances.

They used to offer annual pass holders first dibs on causeway tickets, but it was my understanding that they stopped doing that. Am I incorrect?

Ben,

As far as I know, you are correct. I've been buying annual passes for about 9 years and have had to take my chances on getting a LTT along with everyone else. That put me in a position where many times due to time restrictions I just paid the extra money for the $70 or so 'Dine with...' package on-line, which cost me about an extra $55. But that made my chances of getting a LTT far better than hitting the redial button for, this time, over an hour. That's the record. I've always had to wait at least 20 minutes via phone ordering, but not ever longer than 30 until this past Monday.

I've spoken with and wrote Delaware North & KSCVC in the past about setting something up for annual pass holders more than a few times with no results.

I don't know if they ever did anything special like first dibs at the LTTs for pass holders before, but now they obviously don't even hold enough on the side to cover the number of pass holders.

Why wouldn't they have something set up? I don't understand it. They're losing a lot of revenue. Sports arenas, concert & theatre venues, NASCAR, even individual music acts give perks to those who spend extra money.

My memory may be what is incorrect as far as past annual-pass holders.

Well, a couple of points do come to mind here to the contrary. I don't think there is any limit on the number of annual passes sold, and therefore it will still be a first-come, first-serve basis for them obtaining causeway tickets.

Second, the majority of annual pass holders, I would assume, are local residents of Central Florida. Although not necessarily, it would seem that locals would then get the majority of the causeway tickets, if the annual pass holders were given first dibs on causeway tickets; perhaps even shutting anyone else out from their chance.

NASA release
A significant Hubble anomaly involving the storage and transmittal of science data to Earth occurred this weekend. Fixing the problem will result in delaying next month's Hubble servicing mission...

Dang, I was hoping for a couple of days postponement, as I'll be in Orlando on 10/18 through 10/25, but not a couple of months!

Call, ask for a supervisor and explain the situation. Maybe they'll give you a refund considering the time of your stay is two weeks away. Also explain that most decent hotels will generally accept a cancellation the day before the stay, and even on the morning of that night's stay. If not, see if they will credit you for a future stay.

If that doesn't work, ask for the supervisor's name, etc. and then explain you've tried to accommodate them but have no other choice than to contact the supervisor's superior and the hotel chain home office.

There's nothing wrong with being a squeaky wheel! Good luck!

Rob

NASA managers have announced that they will not meet a February 2009 launch date for STS-125. If they can complete the needed tests and deliver the replacement hardware to the Kennedy Space Center by April, then they could be ready to launch as soon as May.

For further details, see our mission update thread: STS-125: Preparing to service the Hubble
