Looks like the Griffith Observatory got some major 'maintenace' works.

Coincidentally, I just watched for the first time "Rebel Without a Cause", which features the Observatory.

If you ever visit the observatory, they have a James Dean statue out front.

It's sad (and it shows my age) but the first time I ever heard or saw the observatory was in Dragnet. The movie, not the TV show. Starring Dan Akroyd.

A work colleague was visiting the Griffith Observatory in the LA area and sent me this. They went to the Griffith Observatory on Sunday, they had a tribute to Apollo 11 and the Moon landing.

These are photos of the projector and the actual chair they used to train the crew at the Griffith in celestial navigation. Said they pulled it out of storage just for this, the 40th anniversary.

If it hasn't been moved the statue, a bust of Dean, is located off to the right as you approach the observatory entrance. A highlight of my visit there in '89 was checking out the area around back where the famous 'Rebel' knife fight scene took place.

All times are CT (US)
