With NASA starting work on a return to the moon, it would be interesting to compare mockups/test articles built before the final design of the Apollo Boeing LRVs was made and flown on 15, 16, and 17. I saw one concept in mockup form at the Cradle of Aviation Museum on Long Island, NY, and I read that another design was put on temporary display in 2005 at the Kansas Cosmosphere in place of an Apollo LRV being used in the filming of the IMAX movie 'Magnificent Desolation'. In addition, I saw another being restored on the History Channel series 'Save Our History' for the US Space & Rocket Center. Does anyone have any photos of these 'moon buggies' on display, now or in the past?- Al |

A newly released book from CG Publishing (Apogee Books) includes 3D renderings of Apollo-era (and earlier) lunar rovers and mobile laboratories. The Lunar Exploration Scrapbook is billed as a pictorial history of lunar vehicles, including "over 80 Lunar Landers, 80 Rovers and Mobile Laboratories, and more than 50 Lunar Flying Vehicles designed between 1938 and 1972." |
