Saturn I flight vehicle SA-6 was launched from Cape Kennedy at 12:08 p.m. EST on May 28, 1964. It was the sixth successful test of the Saturn booster and the second successful flight of the hydrogen/oxygen S-IV second stage. SA-6 carried into orbit the first unmanned 'boilerplate' model of the Apollo spacecraft.

Thanks Ed, I would still like to see these launch vehicles flying today. Just imagine if the Saturn series were allowed to gain the benefits of 60 years of development through use.

I have read that the Saturn 1B would have been too expensive to continue using it as a launch vehicle, though (until reading that) thought the same thing, that it should have stayed in production. There were concepts presented to NASA about various modifications that could be made to the rocket to put heavier payloads into earth orbit.
