The three crew members for the Apollo-2 mission prepare to check out the couch installation on Command Module 014 at North American's Downey facility in October 1966. Left to right are astronauts Donn Eisele, Wally Schirra and Walt Cunningham. Two months later their mission was cancelled and they were named backup crew for Apollo 1. |

Thanks, Ed... actually the first time I've seen the "full" version of this photo. By any chance would you happen to have a photo of the Apollo 2 back-up crew - Borman Stafford and Collins, or the original Apollo 3 back-up crew - Conrad Gordon and Williams? Thank you! |

Astronauts participate in Apollo spacecraft 014 crew equipment bench display at North American Aviation on August 23, 1966. Mike Collins and Tom Stafford are shown inspecting equipment. Crew commander Frank Borman is not shown. They were named as backup crew for Apollo-2 on September 29, 1966. Astronauts participate in Apollo spacecraft 014 crew equipment bench display at North American Aviation, to familiarize crews with flight equipment. Astronauts Tom Stafford, Mike Collins, Wally Schirra, Walt Cunningham and Donn Eisele are shown inspecting equipment. They were named as prime and backup crew for Apollo-2 on September 29, 1966.
