NASA personnel inspect the Enterprise on the ramp at the Dryden Flight Research Center after the fifth ALT unmanned captive flight atop the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft on March 2, 1977. |

Unique perspective. Look at the difference in wing shapes. |

That's an awesome photo. Did they use the cherry picker to get the ALT crews in through the hatch or were they enter the Enterprise from the ground while it was hoisted on the 747? |

During the three captive-active flights with a crew onboard, the pilots entered Enterprise via the Mate-Demate Device as it was already on top of the SCA. After landing the crews exited by means of the cherry-picker. |

Great photo! I like the original paint scheme for the SCA 747. |

I agree and wished they had kept the original "American Airlines" red, white a blue striping. It also seemed very patriotic to say the least.I also wish they would put Enterprise back to its original ALT/KSC boilerplate paint scheme. There was something about that original look of the shuttle that portrait the future of shuttle spaceflight. |

The Intrepid has said it is considering restoring Enterprise to its original livery as it moves forward with planning its permanent display of the prototype orbiter. With regards to the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, their livery was updated to unify the look of all NASA aircraft. |

I'm confused about the on-boarding of astronauts in the mate/demate device. Did the entire assemblage remain in the mate/demate device until just before they flew it? |
