The Boeing B-52 launch aircraft makes a low pass over the X-24B lifting body after its final flight on November 26, 1975. Pilot Tom McMurtry flew the craft to Mach 0.7 after being dropped at 45,000 feet altitude by the B-52 and landed safely on Rogers Dry Lake. It was the last manned lifting body flight and the end of an era. Not very far away, the first Space Shuttle orbiter Enterprise was under construction. (Thanks to Tony Landis for the photo)

Just out of interest, Ed, what would be the approx. altitude of the B-52 in low passes like this?

I would estimate about 100-150 meters, Henry.

While an overflight by a B-52 might have been routine at Edwards, it was certainly impressive and eye-opening to me when I witnessed one by a 'BUFF' out of Griffiss AFB, NY at about the same altitude at an airshow in 1990.

All times are CT (US)
