STS-123 was launched at 2:28 am EDT on March 11, 2008. This photo was taken from the Press Site by James N. Brown and was published by National Geographic.

More photos can be found on Jimmy's site.

What a beautiful image. Coincidentally, earlier this week I spotted Jimmy's photo at the 1:23 mark in a video clip titled "Our Story in 2 Minutes". Don't blink or you'll miss it.

Thanks guys. This is one of my personal favorites. It was also one of the quickest launches I can remember. We never saw it again after entering the clouds. I didn't realize what I had until I got back to my hotel room later that morning. It was then that I discovered I had something pretty special.

That's a wonderful photograph, but you have additionally done me a great service Ed by providing a link to Jimmy's website. As I previously was not aware of the website, this was my first visit. What a treasure of photographic craftmanship. Thank you to both Ed and Jimmy. I look forward to many more visits here and I urge anyone who still has to make a visit to do so without further delay.

I always liked this photo. To me, it's one of the iconic shots of the Shuttle Program. I'm a fan of launch photos anyway, and this is one of the best. Thanks for the post!

Beautiful work Jimmy.

Here's my take on the Last Launch style for this photo:

Also a great photo, but much more ominous.

Great photos! Reminds me of my third shuttle launch attended in person, STS-82/Discovery in 1997. Night launches are always spectacular.

All times are CT (US)
