Apollo astronauts participate in spacecraft 014 crew equipment review at North American Aviation, to familiarize them with flight hardware. The photo was taken on August 23, 1966, a month before these men were assigned to Apollo 2. At left are backup crewmembers Tom Stafford and Mike Collins. Backup commander Frank Borman is not shown. At right is the prime crew Wally Schirra, Walt Cunningham and Donn Eisele. The official crew announcement was on September 29, 1966, and the flight was cancelled six weeks later. Ed Hengeveld |

If I were to play psychologist I would note Schirra and Stafford both with hands on and trying to take charge of the exercise, Collins being intellectually engaged but slight detached, Cunningham aggressively trying to force his way into the action, and Eisele away from the group in his own little orbit. That all would seem to fit some of the personality traits this group were known for.
