Here is another picture of artist Robert McCall working on 'Opening the Space Frontier - the Next Giant Step' on the wall of the Building 2 Auditorium at JSC in early 1979. Gene Kranz is posing for McCall, so he can accurately paint him into the mural.

Did he paint over the old mural or add to it? I saw the old one so many times that I forgot what it looked like.
