i just finished reading the book "Angle of Attack: Harrison Storms and the Race to the Moon" by Mike Gray. It's a great story about the development of the Apollo spacecraft and the Saturn rocket, with Storms working for North American Aviation.

With that being said, does anyone know if Storms is alive?

Storms died in July 1992 after a heart attack, shortly after the book was published.
Harrison A. Storms Jr., an aeronautics pioneer, died on Saturday at his home in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. He was 76 years old.

He died of a heart attack, said Earl Blount, a family friend and associate.

Mr. Storms's designs and leadership played a key role in developing B-25 bombers and P-51 Mustang fighters in World War II and in Project Apollo's billion-dollar race for the moon in the 1960's.

Based upon reading the book as well, I purchased the The Saturday Evening Post issue that contains the article "Quarterback for the Moon Race" that apparently upset the management at NASA. It has several pictures and a diagram reviewing the direct descent approach to the moon circa May 5, 1962.

I live with Storms' niece and there is a nice snapshot of him and his wife "magneted" on the refrigerator door.

Does anyone know what happened to Stormy after he was fired from head of the Missile Division (or something along those lines) after the Apollo 1 fire?

Was he reassigned to another division or completely let go? I seem to recall he consulted on the space shuttle for North American Rockwell?

Editor's note: Threads merged.

Storms was offered a consulting role for Rockwell's Space Shuttle proposal during the 1970s, but turned it down as he wanted to keep far away from any NASA involvement.

There was a book written about him in 1980 by Mike Gray, "Angle of Attack: Harrison Storms and the Race to the Moon." Was any one been able to read it as I have not?

I have not read it in a long time but it gives a good picture of his involvement.
