WKYC out of Cleveland, Ohio, has more details:
He is reported to be in good spirits and, according to his wife, Carol, "He's doing great."

Armstrong, who just celebrated his 82nd birthday Sunday, went to the hospital Monday for a stress test.

He flunked, and Tuesday surgeons bybassed four blockages in his coronary arteries and Wednesday he's recoverying as expected.

His wife Carol told Astronaut Gene Cernan, the last man on the moon, that Neil's spirits are high and the doctors expect no problems with his recovery.

On edit: NASA Administrator Charles Bolden issued a statement:
NASA wishes Neil Armstrong the very best for a quick recovery from surgery. Neil's pioneering spirit will surely serve him well in this challenging time and the entire NASA Family is holding the Armstrong family in our thoughts and prayers. I know countless well-wishers around the world join us in sending get well wishes to this true American hero.

I wish Neil Armstrong a safe and healthy recovery. At this point, he needs to get up slowly and start walking. Baby steps at first. As a member of the Brotherhood of the Bypass, I can say that walking is the best way to get better. Neil will feel better now that he has blood flowing to his heart through all four bypasses. He just extended his life.

God Speed Neil Armstrong. We are all pulling for you.

I guess his first words when he gets up might be "that's a small step..." Nah!

Wow, as big a brain as Neil has and he flunked a test? Neil! Go back to stress school.

Seriously though, I am sure Neil does try to maintain good health, given his somewhat recent heart history (which is why he was taking a stress test in the first place). I am glad to hear it went well. And if a nurse or doctor were to pull the "one small step..." gag when Neil gets out of bed, I am sure he would probably show them his running prowess as he chases them (no punches would be thrown though as that would be Buzz's department).

In any event, have a safe recovery Neil. The world needs to hear more from the greatest pilot we ever saw.

May he have as swift a recovery as the fleeting moments when he first stepped on the moon. There's much he can do yet!

"One small step...", really, you guys, if he reads this unprepared, he is surely going to need re-stitching! HA! LOL! That was funny!

Here's to a quick recovery, Dr. Armstrong... a very quick one indeed! — Gene

Best wishes to a true American hero. Makes me wonder if the doctor was at all nervous having arguably the best known living person on the plant on his/her operating table.

I sure wish Neil the VERY BEST!! Also that his recovery will not be so painful!! I know exactly what he is going through! In 2006 I had a quintuple bypass.(5) The first week is extremely painful in the chest and legs where they took the veins from. They cannot give you anything for pain in fear of bleeding. Walking is painful too!! The guy next door to my room had a transplant and he was up and walking the next day. Neil is now a member (ZIPPER Club) the stitches on the chest look like a zipper. Our thoughts and prayers are with Neil!!

A brief update on Armstrong's condition from the Associated Press (first published on Aug. 10):
Carol Armstrong told The Associated Press in an email Friday that in the days since the surgery, her 82-year-old husband has been able to get out of bed and sit in a chair, and then walk up and down the corridor.

She says: "Neil is amazingly resilient and on track with his rehab schedule." She credits her husband's drive and the expertise of his doctors.
