Happy Birthday to my favourite astronaut. In my opinion one of the greatest minds in the Astronaut Office in his days there. A true gentleman and one of America's Finest. Happy Birthday Dr. Allen.

At the 2007 Astronaut Hall of Fame Dr. Allen joined us for a little while, a moment neither of us will ever forget:

Had the honor of meeting him at the member's preview the day after Discovery's handover/'roll-in' ceremony at the NASM Udvar-Hazy center in VA this past April. A nicer person you could not meet; signed all the items presented to him and a gracious 'host' to be with..

Happy solar orbit Joe. I have enjoyed many a happy hour with Joe in Houston between the years 1988 and 1994, and then for a week in the UK in June 1994 promoting my childrens book Exploring Space for which Joe provided a Foreword. He also helped on the Scientist Astronaut book with Colin Burgess and was always helpful in any queries regarding his flights and EVA. He really is a nice person and a great astronaut.

Joe Allen was at tonight's John Glenn lecture at NASM, where the featured speaker, Charles Bolden, pointed him out in the audience and told everybody it was his 75th birthday. While happy birthday was not sung in the lecture, NASA's Administrator did say that at the pre-lecture meet and greet (that is not open to the general public) happy birthday was sung to him...

All times are CT (US)
