Astronaut David Scott celebrates his 80th birthday today. Selected as an astronaut in 1963, Col. Scott flew as pilot on Gemini 8 in 1966, as command module pilot on Apollo 9 in 1969, and commander of Apollo 15 in 1971. He is co-author of 'Both Sides of the Moon'. Happy birthday Col. Scott! |

I echo this sentiment. Dave Scott made a massive contribution to NASA's golden age of spaceflight, a contribution which continues to this day. In the last few years geological samples brought back by the crew of Apollo 15 revealed (contrary to all earlier analyses) that the Moon contains significant quantities of indigenous water. So, happy birthday to the first man to drive a car on another world! |

A belated Happy 80th Birthday to Col.David Scott, and wishing him many more. He gave me plenty of time to ask questions at Autographica, Birmingham UK in September'09 despite me not paying for an autograph and was very sociable. What a wonderful space career he had, one of the best of all the astronauts. | |
