Just letting you all know it would have been Deke's birthday today (88). Sure wish I had the chance to have met him... he had the Right Stuff.

I had the pleasure to meet him in 1992. You're right. He was a true hero and we were fortunate to have a man like him play the role he did.

Met him in the 1980s. Nice guy, very gracious to make time for a starry-eyed young fan.
