Saw on June Scobee-Rodgers' website that Tawana Clary will on Dec. 1 be retiring.

Many people have probably seen her at an astronaut sighting, but never knew who she was. She's the astronaut appearances manager at NASA, coordinating them and escorting astronauts to various events. Clary will be retiring after 41 years of service to NASA.

Hart, thanks alot for posting this. Tawana is the nicest person you'd ever meet and one of the countless folks who contribute so much to NASA's success in anonymity.

She was most helpful back in the "old days" helping me contact the astronauts for autographs, etc. and my family and I have had many great experiences thanks to her. Long before one had to purchase tickets to see a shuttle launch, she was able to provide us passes, including several times for the VIP site. STS-44's night launch, viewed from that close, still remains the most spectacular sight I have ever seen.

Whenever I attended an event in D.C. with the astronauts, Tawana was often nearby, in the background, and I never missed an opportunity to stop and say hi. I'm sure she will be truly missed by her peers after being there for so long, and I wish her the very best in her well-deserved retirement.

All times are CT (US)
