This Friday evening I have the privilege of visiting with former Apollo Flight Surgeon Dr. Bill Carpentier. He was involved in the recovery of Apollo 11 (among others) and as such entered into quarantine with the astronauts after landing. I did not know for example that he was the first to reenter the spacecraft after it's recovery on the carrier. His job was to retrieve the contengency sample which was not stored in the lunar rock boxes. He described to me the smell of lunar dust that was obvious in the spacecraft.

He was involved in the recovery of Apollo 14 (also involving a quarantine) and 15.

Just wondered if there is anyone out there that might have a question that they would like answered from Dr. Carpentier and I will try to get it answered. I realize this audience contains members whose expertise in this area far surpasses mine and therefore might offer some well thought out and probing questions.

Just reply here (or e-mail) by Friday.

Whew — I was afraid you were announcing something sad had happened.

I have gotten to know Bill over the past few years during his visits here to Johnson Space Center researching and writing his compendium of spaceflight medical results. He is endlessly fascinating and a heck of a nice guy.

Ask him about Gina Lollobrigida.

John, your comment about Gina Lollobrigida led to the most spirited discussion of the night. Very funny story. Willie says you may have had your last meal there although Bill will still make his mousse for you.

Most gracious and hospitable couple.
