Sam Hamad, the Minister of Economic development, Innovation and Export Trade at the Government of Québec, indicated that the new position of Scientific Authority for Quebec in Washington, to which Julie Payette was appointed, will be reevaluated after one year. The minister used the expression "Scientific diplomacy" to qualify the new position.Mrs. Payette will notably act as an ambassador to Articnet, which federates research work from about 140 researchers from Canadian universities into the impacts of climate change in the coastal Canadian Arctic. Articnet is based at Université Laval in Quebec City, the oldest French-speaking university in America. Part of her remuneration will come from Université Laval, another from the Canadian Space Agency. | |
