I am conducting a little research into the life and shortened NASA career of the late astronaut, John Sumter Bull, for a magazine article. If anyone out there has any biographical information other than what is commonly available on the 'Net, and particularly any interviews conducted with him, or quotes about him, I'd be very appreciative if a copy could be sent to me. The article is being prepared for "Quest" magazine, and will cover the lives and accomplishments of the eleven pre-shuttle NASA astronauts who did not get the opportunity to fly into space, either through accidents or resignations from the astronaut corps.I'm fairly well covered for the other ten guys, but I'd really like to have any ancdotal material by or about John Bull to help flesh out his story. The amazing Ed Hengeveld has already weighed in with some great photos of Bull, but so far I haven't heard from anyone else apart from some nice words of tribute supplied by Al Worden. Anything at all on Bull would be greatly appreciated and acknowledged in the article. |

Colin, you probably know this already. I recorded in the 1971 edition of my booklet 'Manned Spaceflight' that Bull was grounded because of asprin asthma and resigned in July 1968. In the 1968 edition I recorded that he was in the support team for Apollo 8. |

Thank you, yes. I have all the basics surrounding Bull's time as an astronaut, and the cause of his enforced resignation; it was more the little (harmless) untold stories about him that I am seeking. However I do appreciate your message very much. |
