The Chicago Tribune reports Chicago architect Ernest A. Grunsfeld III, a distinguished architect of modernist homes and the son of the architect of the Adler Planetarium, died Friday, April 22. Mr. Grunsfeld was 81. The cause of death was lung cancer, said his son, John Mace Grunsfeld, a former NASA astronaut..."His lifelong practice of architecture paid continuing attention and respect to the principles of modernism, particularly in his works of residential design," John Mace Grunsfeld wrote in an email. "His houses reflect a proud tradition of Chicago design, and are much admired by those who reside in them and beloved by those who build them." |
