I am glad to have found a website with so much first hand knowledge of the space program. I live in a condominium complex called Atlantic Gardens. The address is 8401 North Atlantic Blvd, Cape Canaveral. I have heard stories that these buildings and some down the street were built by the Army Corps of Engineers for workers at Cape Canaveral! I can't find proof but they sure look that way. Anyone with some information or pictures? Randy |

If your condo was converted from apartments built in the 1960's-- most certainly. I never heard the Corp of Engineers story, but many local property owners and developers probably got low-interest loans and such to help meet worker housing needs as the Apollo project ramped up. When Apollo layoffs took hold in the late '60's/early '70's, many of these apartment complexes were converted to condos; though many on the ocean front were razed for new, 3-story + construction. Always looking for a better rent deal as a young college student/Skylab tech- I lived in 4 different apartments in Cape Canaveral from 1968-72. Most of my neighbors worked at the Cape. |

I am not sure. They were all built uniformly and remind me of government housing I stayed in over the years in the military. Thank you for the reply and please let me know if any other memories come back to you. | |
